Neighborhood History:

H.C. Tuttle & Bro. introduced 850 lots of land as “Bellaire the Beautiful” in May 1920. The neighborhood has been known for its relative affordability within Indianapolis since its beginnings, with lots originally priced between $150 and $450. At the time, Broad Ripple and Central Avenue street car routes ushered curious buyers to the land Saturday through Monday. Entertainment was available for guests on Sunday afternoons

In more recent years, the area was included in the Keystone-Monon Neighborhood Association (KMNA) service territory. Upon learning that KMNA was inactive, neighbors Ivan Holder and Thomas Nemecek formed the Bellaire Neighborhood Association in August 2020. They, along with association administrator Christina Cheeks,

held monthly meetings via Zoom during the pandemic

to disseminate information and advocate for neighbors in need of help. The association now meets monthly.

“The Bellaire Neighborhood Association is so important to us and the progress in our neighborhood:’ said president Ivan Holder. “We feel that we have awakened a sleeping giant because we think that by giving the neighborhood the care and attention it needs, it can rise again to be the prestigious neighborhood it once was.”

MISSION STATEMENT

The Bellaire Neighborhood Association was created to foster open communication within the community and create a network for collaboration on maintaining a clean, safe, and comfortable environment for all Residents. We believe communication, cooperation, and compassion are the seeds that will help all of us in the Bellaire Neighborhood grow stronger together.
